Amphora Designs Beadwork & Workshops by Maggie Meister Inspired by ancient mosaics, frescos and jewelry
La Collana Cosmati

La Collana Cosmati

This necklace design is based on a 12th century mosaic floor found at the Abbey of San Vincenzo in the Molise region of Italy. The floor is made of various types and colors of marble of wonderful colors and in the cosmatique method of mosaics. I fell in love with the endless curves -symbolizing eternity- that frame the circles and triangles which form wonderful intricate patterns.

The necklace is comprised of components of circular brick stitch, tubular peyote and diagonal brick stitch which we join together to make medallions and ultimately the necklace.

I have designed this class to be taught in a workshop setting. **A period of at least three days is needed to cover the basic instrucitons for the entire necklace. However, it can be broken donw into a two-day class where the large "centerpiece" medallion would be taught and then connected to a beaded rope (i.e., peyote rope or spiral rope chain) with embellishment.

Two Day Class **
