Clodia's Necklace
Clodia's Necklace

Clodia was a strong woman who lived in ancient Rome.  Although she was a woman in Roman times, she was well-educated in both Greek and Philosophy.  She had quite the reputation as a “merry widow”, engaging in many love affairs including the poet Catullus and Marcus Caelius Rufus, Catullus' friend.  Her affair with Caelius would lead to a scandal and trial after she accused him of trying to poison her.  Caelius’ defense attorney was Cicero and was documented (from his point of view) in his speech, Pro Caelio.  Caelius was acquitted and history lost track of the infamous Clodia.

The necklace was inspired by a “mosaic trefoil knot” from ancient Rome.  It is made using Right Angle Weave.  Participants must be proficient in Right Angle Weave.
